4Quality Hitch and Very Good Customer Service
By Katawampas
This looks like a top quality hitch. Robust construction, powder coating (better than just paint), and packed for shipping pretty well. However, mine came bent from the factory. To make a long story short, I attempted to install the hitch as per the instructions. Everything went well until I tried to mount the hitch to the mounting bolts in the frame. One mounting hole was bent about 0.5 inches out of whack. It could NOT be fiddled into position. Grrr! Anecdotal posting on car forums indicate that bent mounting brackets are not uncommon among all brands.

I called the company the next day, and to Curt Manufacturing's credit, they replaced it with very few questions and via next day shipping. They get mega points for correcting the problem quickly and with no objection.

The mounting bolt installation is done with an ingenious fish wire system to get bolts into hard to access holes in the car's frame. I was kind of dubious about this process, but this worked very well. Just follow the directions. The muffler had to be pushed aside slightly, but I got the mounting bracket in to position. Your car may differ (mine was a 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback).

For anyone mounting on this vehicle, the 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback: the distance between the two mounting holes toward the front of the car should be approx 37-5/8 inches center to center. If it looks bent, it might be, and this measurement should verify whether it is bent or not.

Their claim of mounting this hitch in 20 minutes is not realistic unless you have a car lift and do this for a living. Figure 1-2 hours depending on your skill/etc.

I wish the first hitch had been perfect, but their customer service took care of it quickly. I am now enjoying my bike rack mounted on this hitch receiver and it is very solid.

UPDATE 8/2012: This hitch is still rock solid & not rusting. I would buy another Curt if I needed to.

5Very happy with the hitch so far
By TK
Installed this hitch last night on my 2012 Mazdaspeed 3, pretty happy so far. Thoughts:
i) Construction seems solid, heavy gauge steel, good looking welds, nicely powdercoated.
ii) Packaging not sufficient - as others have noted, my hitch was broken through the side of the shipping box when it arrived. Fortunately it was not damaged, but this is clearly an issue and Curt ought to address it.
iii) Installation was fairly straightforward, and can be done by one person, though a little help at the point of maneuvering the hitch around the exhaust and onto the bolts made the process much smoother. All in, it took a little over an hour to install, including unpacking & getting the car on/off the ramps etc. - if you have the tools and inclination this is not a hard job.

A few installation tips: I put the rear wheels on ramps, which angled the car forwards - this made the backing plates very easy to install as gravity assisted with their positioning and they almost 'fell' into place without effort. After pulling the bolts through the backing plates, I used a small strip of duct tape around each bolt to hold it in place and avoid the bolts being pushed back into the frame rail during installation of the hitch; I loosely bolted the hitch in place and removed the tape then tightened it all up. On my car I could get at three of the six bolts with a 11/16" deepwell socket & extension, the fourth required a shallow socket with universal joint & extension, and the remaining two I used an open end wrench.

5Awesome! High Quality
By Bigmoneyindabank
Just purchased a 2012 Mazdaspeed3 and didn't want to skimp out on a uhaul hitch as their crossbars always show and look cheap.

This curt hitch is awesome and looks great with my bike rack installed.

The only issue i had is when i received the box hald of the hitch had broken through the cardboard and was sticking out. Nothing was harmed or lost though. Figured it was worth mentioning as they might want to look into beefing up their shipping packages.
