4fit my 2012 Golf TDI - easy installation
By bluebunny
I recently installed this receiver hitch on my 2012 Golf TDI. Curt makes the most attractive hitch receiver for my beautiful Golf. Easy installation, but a 3/4" deep well socket is required with an wrench socket extension. Essentially one simply removes two existing screws from under the car, and combined with two screws supplied, fit it up with the four screws, torque it, and your done! Borrow a torque wrench - very important - do not guess at the torque required. I wrench for a living, and guessed temporarily until bringing it into the shop for torque-up. Maybe it was working upside down while laying on the ground...but I guessed too soft. The hitch fit very well, but the hitch rides pretty low to the ground (no lower than all that other stuff under there - this car rides low!). My use is for cargo box, bike rack, and towing 18 ft sail boat. "Stowaway hitch tightener" sold here is required to reduce wobble of cargo box and bike rack. Over all very satisfied with this hitch receiver.

UPDATE: As compared to the Hidden Hitch receivers on my other two vehicles, this Curt receiver seems to hold accessories such as bike rack, cargo box, and ball mounts a little more loosely (a little more wobble, flopping and clunking). Hence my recommendation for the "stowaway hitch tightener", or do as I did, made a flopper-stopper myself from a U-bolt and a small 1/4" steel plate. No looseness with the flopper-stopper. Need one for rack and box anyway, but never needed to use it with a ball mount on the Hidden Hitch. The Curt is certainly more attractive...

5EASY Installation
By Rock of Ages
I'm impressed at so many levels with this purchase.
* Product was shipped the day after ordered and received 1 day later (super saver!).
* Everything was in mint condition on arrival - no crushed box, nothing missing, no scratches.
* The installation was remarkably easy for a job that is nearly a 'structural' modification.

I looked over the installation directions prior to purchase and was more than skeptical of the estimate of 15-30 minutes for the job. Although I didn't make the 15 minute mark, the install was truly a 'piece of cake'. There are a few things that can't really be avoided in doing this job.
*You need a few tools - the right size sockets and extensions - a torque wrench too
*You need enough strength to loosen and tighten nuts to 90+ lbs of torque (while lying under a car!)

The product quality/finish was excellent, the 'fit' was a perfect match for the car (Golf/GTI) and the instructions (and fish wires) were on point. Nothing needed to be 're-jiggered', modified, moved, cut or fabricated to put it in.

If you need a hitch on your VW, just GET IT and DO IT! If you have (or can borrow) a few tools, and have minimal upper body strength, this isn't a job where you'll need to call a friend or neighbor or father-in-law to help you finish it.

4Fits well and is easy to install on 2011 VW Golf TDI
By R. George
I got this so that I could attach a hitch mount bike rack on my 2011 VW Golf TDI.

I installed this hitch by myself. It was a little difficult by myself and I would definitely suggest getting a helper to support the hitch as you are bolting it to the underside of the car. The supplied hardware was easy to install and everything fit perfectly. Don't forget that you NEED a torque wrench to ensure that this is torqued properly.

My only complaint is that I do not like how low the hitch sits to the ground. The GTI exhaust is slightly different and allows the hitch bar to sit a little higher. Since installing, I have hit the hitch on the ground twice in about 2 months. After the first few hits, you learn and take big bumps a little slower. Wish the hitch sat higher, but I have had no problems with the hitch and my rack feels super secure on this hitch.

Works great.
